Imported bearing maintenance methods for proper operation

To ensure the normal operation of FAG imported bearings, proper lubrication is essential. The rated load and maximum speed of rolling bearings are determined under the assumption of adequate lubrication. Adequate lubrication means selecting appropriate lubricants and using the correct amount. Poor lubrication is often one of the main causes of early bearing failure.

According to statistics, approximately one-third of bearing failures are due to poor lubrication. During rotation, rolling bearings experience wear and failure due to frictional resistance. The resistance that impedes the rotation of rolling bearings consists of three types of friction: rolling friction, sliding friction on the guide surfaces of the cage and retaining edges, and friction of the lubricant caused by its internal friction, stirring, and extrusion at the contact points. Therefore, the total resistance to bearing movement is the sum of these three types of friction. The purpose of lubrication is to prevent direct contact between the raceways, rolling elements, and cage metal by using grease and its lubrication method, reducing frictional heat, minimizing frictional resistance, reducing wear, preventing rust, and extending the service life. Since FAG imported bearings are treated with anti-rust treatment and packaging, the packaging should not be opened until just before installation.

Furthermore, the anti-rust oil applied to the bearings has good lubricating properties. For general-purpose bearings or bearings filled with grease, there is no need to clean them before use. However, for precision instruments or bearings used in high-speed rotation, the anti-rust oil should be removed using clean cleaning oil. During this process, the bearings are prone to rust and should not be left for a long time.

Clean the bearings and housing, ensuring there are no scratches or burrs left from machining. There should be no abrasives (such as SiC, Al2O3) or chips inside the housing. Next, check if the dimensions, shape, and machining quality of the shaft and housing match the drawings.

The method of installing FAG imported bearings depends on the bearing fit, conditions, and structure. Generally, since the shaft rotates, an interference fit is required for the inner ring. For bearings with cylindrical bores, they are usually pressed in using a press or installed using a heating method. For tapered bores, they can be directly mounted on tapered shafts or installed using sleeves. When installing into the housing, there is usually a clearance fit with an interference fit on the outer ring. It is commonly pressed in using a press or cooled and installed using a shrink fit method. When using dry ice as a cooling agent for shrink fitting, moisture in the air may condense on the surface of the bearing. Therefore, proper rust prevention measures are required. The correct installation of FAG imported bearings affects their lifespan, accuracy, and performance. Therefore, the design and assembly departments should thoroughly study the installation of bearings. It is recommended to follow the operating specifications for installation.
